Fire Protection Association
- The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is a U.S.
organization (albeit with some international members) charged
with creating and maintaining minimum standards and requirements
for fire prevention and suppression activities, training, and
equipment, as well as other life-safety codes and standards.
This includes everything from building codes to the personal
protective equipment utilized by firefighters while extinguishing
a blaze.

Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies
- The National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies
(NICET) provides an independent evaluation of technical knowledge
and experience, through certification, among those working in
the fields of engineering technology. (Not all states require
NICET certification. Many states manage their own engineering
certification process and licensure.)

- The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) is a professional
society for fire protection engineering established in 1950.
SFPE publishes the Journal of Fire Protection Engineering, and
Fire Protection Engineering magazine is published quarterly by
SFPE.

Safety and Health Administration
- An agency of the United States Department of Labor. It was
created by Congress of the United States under the Occupational
Safety and Health Act, signed by President Richard M. Nixon,
on December 30, 1970. Its mission is to prevent work-related
injuries, illnesses, and occupational fatality by issuing and
enforcing standards for workplace safety and health. The agency
is headed by a Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor, of the United
States.

of Licensing Contractors ()
- The Board of Licensing Contractors is responsible for the
initial licensure of contractors doing work in Tennessee. Those
performing work on fire protection and fire sprinkler systems,
must also register with the Tennessee
Division of Fire Protection.

Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR)
- A Commerce and Trade secretariat agency, DPOR regulates more
than 30 occupations and professions through 19 boards composed
of practitioners and citizens appointed by the Governor. DPOR
licenses or certifies over 300,000 individuals and businesses
ranging from architects and contractors to Fire Prevention Contractors.
